HydroPoint Data Systems, Inc., Provider of WeatherTRAK,
Joins EPA's Climate Leaders Program
Proven Leader in Smart Water Management Announces Commitment to Reduce Global
Climate Change
Petaluma, CA – July 1, 2008 – HydroPoint Data Systems,
Inc., provider of the market-leading WeatherTRAK smart water
management solution, today announced its participation in the
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA's) Climate Leaders
program as part of its continued commitment to environmental
improvement. By participating in Climate Leaders, HydroPoint
pledges to reduce its corporate-wide greenhouse gas (GHG)
emissions. The company is among the first low emitters to join
this initiative.
"Over the past decade, we've helped leading private and public
organizations reduce water use, energy demand and carbon
emissions. We're pleased to announce our own commitment to
alleviate global climate change by joining the Climate Leaders
program," said HydroPoint Chairman and Chief Strategy Officer
Chris Spain.
WeatherTRAK smart water network subscribers saved an estimated
13 billion gallons of water, 52 million kilowatt hours of power
and 70 million pounds of carbon dioxide in the 10-year period
since 1998. The CO2 emissions collectively offset by WeatherTRAK
subscribers, including fellow Climate Leaders program partners
Kohl's Department Stores, Coca-Cola, Johnson Controls and
Lockheed Martin Corporation, are equivalent to planting 1.5
million trees.
Landscapes receive more than half of our urban water and are
overwatered by 30 to 300 percent. Excess water drains off
overwatered landscapes, contributing to the urban runoff
pollution that compromises local water supplies. All that wasted
water leads to property destruction and liabilities – expenses
that run five-to-ten times as high as water costs. Further,
water waste translates into energy waste and in turn to the
carbon emissions that exacerbate climate change and drought.
The WeatherTRAK solution is proven in studies funded by the
Cal/EPA among others to apply the right amount of water at the
right time. WeatherTRAK customers simply tell the controller
about their plants, soil, slope, and sun exposure, and the
system creates a personal watering schedule that is
automatically adjusted as the local weather changes. Entire
groups of WeatherTRAK controllers can be centrally managed via
an easy-to-use website. View a demo.
"EPA applauds HydroPoint for joining the Climate Leaders
program. We look forward to working with them to reduce their
greenhouse gas emissions and protect our environment," said
Robert J. Meyers, Principal Deputy Assistant Administrator of
EPA's Office of Air and Radiation.
As a Climate Leaders partner, HydroPoint will expand its current
efforts to reduce environmental impact. Currently, the company:
designs product packaging to reduce transportation costs and
minimize waste, uses automatic on/off lighting controls and
fluorescent tubes, cleans with eco-friendly solvents, encourages
waste prevention and recycling, and employs "smart" programmed
HVAC systems.
In addition to the Climate Leaders program, HydroPoint is active
in numerous other environmental stewardship programs including
the Alliance for Water Efficiency, Business Council on Climate
Change (BC3) and California Urban Water Conservation Council.
By gaining control over their water use, subscribers of
HydroPoint's WeatherTRAK solution comply with new conservation
legislation and earn US Green Building Council LEED™
